2018 Practicums & Private Sessions

As part of the certification process in IAYT-accredited yoga therapy training I am teaching spring and fall practicums. These small groups (minimum 3, maximum 6) meet twice a week for 1.5 hours each time for a total of 9 or10 weeks. Classes are suitable for those with mobility-challenges and / or in recovery from injury, illness, or PTSD. 

Students are invited to gently open and awaken their bodies through mental focus, breath, feeling tone, and subtle energy. Breathing techniques and meditation practices provide pathways to relaxation, heightened awareness, and self-compassion. Patience and persistence are rewarded with increased wellbeing.

Don't worry if you haven't done yoga before, of if your previous yoga experience wasn't suitable. Mental, physical, and emotional habits and conditions are worked with in an inclusive, compassionate manner.

My teaching incorporates styles and techniques gained through years of personal practice, extensive and ongoing study and training, and experiential exploration of a variety of movement models. While I have great respect for my teachers and many of their teachers, I do not adhere to a single lineage or follow a guru.

I approach my teaching with great awareness of the shortcomings of a "one size fits all" or "alignment-based" approach to yoga and movement. We are like snowflakes - each of us completely unique on all levels.

Dorothy Fizzell E-RYT 500 and I are lead trainers in the SOYA* Vancouver-area 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher training each fall.

Maximum 8 students (Extended 3-month Program)

August 31 - December 2, 2018 alternate weekends (approx.)

Studio location: Pitt Meadows near Lougheed Hwy and Harris Road.

A Registered Yoga School (RYS200) with Yoga Alliance.

South Okanagan Yoga Academy (SOYA) has over 20 years experience training yoga teachers, making it one of the longest-running programs in North America, with 200- and 300-hour YTT programs in Alberta, British Columbia, and Mexico.

A powerful yoga experience that is far more than simply mastering poses. This program should be a requirement for any school program as it provides essential life skills.  Experienced teachers provide supportive and effective knowledge. I highly recommend it.

Core Fundamentals is a hatha yoga class designed with special emphasis on accessing and developing deep core strength to help you move safely through yoga class and your everyday life. We explore the body’s potential for stability, mobility, fluidity, and co-ordination and gain insight into how to create support for our structures from within. Sometimes we work with very specific muscles and other times you will be encouraged to find your own curiosity around movement. The goal of the class is to leave you feeling relaxed, balanced, and inspired. 

All levels welcome.

Restorative Yoga & Meditation
Private Individual & Group Sessions

Restorative yoga cultivates a deeply healing state of relaxation, safety, and clarity. Practitioners experience improved self-regard and vitality through extended passive poses supported with high-quality props, and, if appropriate, music, fragrance, or other sensory input.

Over the last few years I have personally realized great benefits through meditation and yoga nidra - a systematic procedure to induce profound relaxation - and sharing these practices with students is rich and rewarding. My strong personal and community meditation practices, as well as working individually with pranayama and Vedic mantra teachers provides support for this aspect of my teaching.

I am certified in restorative yoga and have training in trauma-sensitive yoga and gentle yoga for pain care (see "About" page)..
